Whew! What can I say?

From a last minute decision to one of the best Convention Experiences Ever!

I originally intended to travel up late on the Saturday night & find a place to crash my head before the convention started Early on the Saturday morning. Though this plan came crashing down the minute a received a special invite from Dom Rand over at comicconventions.co.uk to meet the one and only Stan Lee!

So travel plans scrapped, new ticket booked, and excitement building. I traveled up early in the afternoon to prepare for our Friday Night meeting with the 'Man'.

(More on that in the future!)

Saturday morning began with me making my way through the exhibition halls past the waiting queue, and oh may what a queue! This was to be the biggest and busiest exclusively Comic Book based Convention I had attended to date. From the moment I sat down I was locked into my chair. With a constant river of people waiting for sketches or trying to book sketches in, there was no time to eat. Let alone stretch my legs!

After spending the evening recovering with liquid refreshment on tap, I was ready for the extravaganza of the next day. Again the same, locked in place, head down, I never had time to walk around and chat or even meet some of the great artists that were in attendance.

I do not think I have ever produced so many pieces of Art in such a locked in time frame, however I enjoyed every minute of it. The public were fantastic and everyone I met was extremely friendly and courteous, even bringing me refreshments!

Hot Chocolate with creme & marshmallows?

You can't say better than that!

LONDON SUPER COMIC CON

I will now be a guest at the 1st London Super Comic Con. A bit of a last minute decision on my part. After purchasing a train ticket costing £7.50 with a place to rest my head if I needed, I originally planned to pop up for the day.

After seeking approval, or rather being kicked up the Ass. I was given a last minute spot at the show. So if your in the area, want a sketch on the day, or to pre-order at convention prices:

CLUB BATMAN

I was asked to provide an original piece of Art for The CLUB BATMAN Exhibition in Malaga, Spain.

WORLD SOLDIERS

Here are a few of the images I did for a job at the tail end of 2011. The smattering of images are a small part of an animatic I was asked to put together for a new company called World-Soldiers.

Look out for them in 2012.

KAMEN RIDERS COMMISSION

Here is the latest Commission, A3 sized. I had never heard of Kamen Riders before being asked to do this. So pen in hand and Thirty down, I can now safely say not only have I heard of them, but can even remember some of their names!

This piece was produced for Nicholas Edward Snowden.

PRIVE VS PRIME COMMISSION

This was fun Commission for the festive season.

Anthony Jones ordered this for his bother as his Christmas Treat.

There was simply One Requirement, Generation 1 Optimus Prime had to be kicking the Ass of the Movie Series Optimus Prime.

I think I succeeded!

STAR WARS GALAXY 7

Phew, okay now I can take a breather!

It's Star Wars time again, and this time I thought I would go for double the trouble. 150 Individual Star Wars pictures? Nah! Give me 300!

Was that a wise move?

Well, it's been fun, challenging and mentally exhausting. Okay so no repeats, not too many of the same character, oh and make sure there good!

Well back to the pen propelled grindstone it is then,

with a cup of tea and chocolate buiscuit in hand. :)

TRANSFORMERS COMMISSION

Not something I post very often, but really I should! Here is the latest commission piece that was requested.

The requirements were simply Hot Rod facing Optimus Prime.

WINTER MEMORABILIA REVIEW

This was the last Memorabilia at the NEC as we know it. There are plans for big changes ahead to this show. So here's my look back at last weekend.

The first thing I noticed on the way in was the giant Predator looking as though he was a little lost. As if he wasn't sure why he was there.

'Should I be ripping the spines from people or patting them on the head?'.

I imagined he was pondering.

There was a good mix of people at this event. A different crowd to the MCM Comic Cons and more family orientated than the Cosplay Crew. Though if the organisers have their way this will be changing very soon.

I had the chance to draw a variety of different subjects over the weekend. From the usual Marvel/DC & Transformers, to family portraits, Warhammer and even Robocop. A small sampling of which are scattered amongst this posting.

Now if only I could find that Robocop.

As per usually my sketching duties were required from early on and carried me through most of Saturday before I could get a breather. Although there was less of crowd, there was enough to keep me busy throughout the day. When it became quieter I had the pleasure to chat to Paul H Birch who was manning the stall next to mine.

Once I got though my sketches on the Sunday I had the opportunity to take a walk around the show for what was the first time in ages. There was a lot to take in and see, a bit too much to with the limited time I had available.

A good show all in all with a nice relaxed atmosphere.

MCM AFTERMATH!

I was a guest at the MCM show in London on the 29th and 30th of October. Just last month! I had a fantastic and exhausting time. Thanks to all those who came over for a chat and to get sketches. I don't think I have ever had such a crowd. It was so busy that some good folks had to come back the following day to get sketches, as they never quite got to the front of the queue.

I will definitely be back next year!

THE CURSE OF BLACK PETER

If Anyone happened to be watching the BBC around 4.30 today, they would have caught sight of a Comic Book section Featuring Mark Millar and John Mccrea. With myself added to the mix We produced a nice little comic strip for the show "The Curse of Black Peter"

I was brought on board to give the comic page a little Shazam. With some ass kicking colours and eye popping word balloons the finished piece does the three of us proud.

MCM EXPO LONDON COMIC CON

I am pleased to announce I will be attending the MCM London Comic-Con at the Excel Center on the 29th & 30th October. Come along for a great day out and sketch, or preferably two. I will be producing any character you like, the more challenging the better!

EMS THE ENTERTAINMENT MEDIA SHOW

I was invited along to The Entertainment Media Show at Earls Court on 1st & 2nd of October. This was my first time at this event and I doubt it will be my last. I enjoyed myself thoroughly at the show.

I was set an interesting challenge by Autograph hunter Tom Milburn. My fellow comic creator and friend John Mccrea who was also in attendance produced an fearsome Alien Sketch for Tom. The challenge was to see if I could create a Predator Sketch of equal scale to sit alongside.

I think they make a fine looking pair if I do say so myself.

Plus here's a couple more random creations from over the weekend.

BRISTOL COMICON 2011

DING DONG!

Earlier this year I was a Guest at one of the longest running comic conventions in the UK. The Classic Bristol Comic Expo. Set in the Hotel Foyer of the Ramada Plaza, mainly Id guess as the biggest part of the con is the bar and the easy access to it. What is nice here is how easily the fans and artists can mix. There is always someone interesting to talk to. It quite understandable how the bar never empties before 4 in the morning.


Here are a few pics of the sketches I produced over the weekend. As per usual I am pretty useless at remembering to take pictures of most of my sketches. I usually remember in the closing hours of the show. So no pictures of Mysterio or Claw here. Or the multitude of other characters I had the fun and good fortune to draw.


When I do take pictures they have a tendency to suffer from the classic camera shake.

Then again I'm an artist not a photographer.


As always there are the usual suspects I am asked to roll out. Though I do love drawing Transformers. What is nice about the Bristol show is that I always get the chance to try my hand at few of the more classic Marvel stable. Here is my Sabertooth Sketch I did for Baden, not bad for a first attempt.


He should fit right in with Mr Fixit.
